On the Difference Between Translation and Interpretation

Perhaps you saw this clip recently from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner:

No matter what your politics are, we can all agree on one thing: translation and interpretation are not the same thing.

Translation involves the written word. Interpretation involves the spoken word. Simple as that.

We encourage you to spread to word, to use this terminology correctly in daily usage. For the love of translators and interpreters everywhere.
